Roosevelt Lake boats
Roosevelt is the biggest lake entirely within Arizona and the one where electronics stop being a luxury. There is simply too much water to fish blind, so boats here run long distances on plane looking for structure — which is exactly the condition that exposes a badly placed transducer. If your unit loses bottom at speed, Roosevelt is where it will cost you the day.
What Roosevelt Lake does to a boat
Open water and distance. Long runs on plane are hard on a marginal transducer mount and hard on the deck you are braced against, and the wind that gets up across water this size means a lot of the day is spent taking chop rather than sitting still.

FAQ
Roosevelt Lake — your questions
Why does my sonar lose bottom at speed on Roosevelt?
Almost always transducer placement rather than the unit. Roosevelt means long high-speed runs between spots, and a transducer sitting in aerated water simply has nothing to read once you are up. Moving it into clean water for your hull fixes it.
Is Roosevelt hard on a trailer?
The tow is. It is a long run with real grades whichever way you come at it, and sustained descent heat is what drives grease out of a hub. The lake itself is kind; the road to it is not.
Do I need a second screen to fish water this big?
Not necessarily. Placement and clean power on the unit you already own usually buy more than a second screen does. A well-mounted mid-range unit reads better than a flagship one sitting in turbulent water.
